If you’re a fan of Disney’s Alice In Wonderland movie (from year 2010), there’s a great chance you will LOVE this manga. For those of you who still haven’t seen that fantastic movie produced by Tim Burton (What you are waiting for??!), here is what the story is about: Several years has passed and Alice is a grown girl now, old enough to get married and start her own family. However, Alice does not feel comfortable with that and she still finds herself daydreaming everyday: wondering how it would be like to be able to fly, picturing the impossible. I really, really enjoyed this story. As I already said, it is almost exactly the same as the movie. I liked the art in this manga. Characters looked so much better then in the movie (not sure if that is unintentional critic for the actors but… bare with me). Alice and the White Rabbit were so beautiful but yet simple, and as for Hamish – he looked like a model here. So much more handsome then Hamish from the movie (again, every insult aimed at actor is unintentional). There is only one character that I didn’t like how was drawn, and that is Mad Hatter. While in movie he looked perfectly (and I was never too crazy about Johnny Depp so that has nothing to do with him), here in manga he looked like a weird skinni woman. All in all, I would recommend this manga to everyone who likes the movie but also to anyone who still hasn’t seen it. Note: I got this book for free via Netgalley in an exchange for an honest review. Thank you Diamond Book Distributors. Read this and more reviews on my blog: http://bookdustmagic.wordpress.com
Why?
Because it is almost exactly the same.
Her nights are filled with dreams of Wonderland and all those silly creatures that live there.
One day, as she is older, she sees a rabbit with clock and starts following him around.
You can guess what happens next!
You’re right! She falls into a whole that leads her back to Wonderland.
If you didn’t know, I am a huge fan of the movie, so it is no wonder that I enjoyed this manga so much.
The only difference I noticed is that at the beginning of manga we get to see Alice as a little girl and her father talking with her before her sleeptime, while in the movie Alice told us about that, but we didn’t get to see it.
But, if you disliked the movie, you probably wouldn’t like the manga either, so I would suggest you to skip this.

3.5 Stars Read all my reviews on http://urlphantomhive.booklikes.com Tokyopop is back with some new manga versions of popular movies. First up is Alice in Wonderland, based on the 2010 Disney movie by Tim Burton. I was never such a big fan of the movie and that didn't change after I read the manga, but I enjoyed the manga nevertheless. The story is very much the same as in the movie, and basically everything reminded me of it. If you're looking for something original, or with a new twist to it, you'll not find it here. If however, you want to refresh your memory in another way than just rewatching the movie before watching the sequel I'd strongly recommend the manga. The artwork really fitted the story in my opinion, but still the Japanese look to it. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

**I received a free copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review** This is a manga adaptation of Tim Burton's 2010 movie Alice in Wonderland. I really love that movie, and I'm very happy to say that I enjoyed this manga a lot! The art is amazing and it has a lot of charm. The movie is very crazy, with lots of colors and CGI, which gives it a lot of expression, and I thought it could be a bit difficult for the mangaka to recreate the same story with the same level of craziness in paper. I'm glad to see that Abe did such a great job and did achieve that same craziness, especially with the Mad Hatter, who looked pretty much insane. I didn't read the whole version, since the review copy consisted of only a part of the original manga, but I could still appreciate a lot of the story. If you're a fan of the movie, then you might really enjoy this, but I think that even if you haven't watched it, you might enjoy this as well :) More reviews on my blog: Lipstick and Mocha

I bought the book at Comic Con a few years ago, I just couldn't resist!
It is the Tim Burton version of Alice's adventures in Wonderland, and it is just precious. Absolutely stunning art work, and great details to all the characters. I loved it.

'Alice in Wonderland: Special Collector's Manga' by Jun Abe is a manga adaptation of the Tim Burton film from a few years back. My review copy stopped about halfway through the story, but it looks like the full copy is what is available. Alice Kingsleigh had nightmares as a young child. Her father was able to help her get over them. Years later, he is gone and she is about to be put into an arranged marriage. A white hare in a suit causes her to chase after it, and she finds herself on a different adventure than the one the day started with. She sees how she is chosen to fight a terrible beast, but first she has to relearn who she is. Assisting her is the March Hare and the Mad Hatter and various other citizens of the kingdom. Opposing her is the Red Queen and her Knave of Swords. The creatures of this land are oppressed and looking for a way to change things. Can Alice be the one they've been waiting for? I liked the movie, but I didn't love it. I think I might actually prefer this manga version. I like the art and it reminded me of things that I liked in the movie. I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, Tokyopop, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I received a copy via netgalley. First off I haven't read any manga in a long time. I was beyond ecstatic to find they'd redone the movie version of this into a manga and was extrodinary pleased with the art and how well it followed the movie.
It's a quick read though I'll probably go back and do a reread and pay more attention to the art and absorb it better.
Highly recommendable for fairytale lovers.

When I was the age to have Alice in Wonderland read to me, the pictures terrified me. I could never sit until the book was finished for fear that the awful creatures could possibly be real. When I was the age to read on my own, I was no longer interested. When I went to see the animated movie, I hid under the seat during the Mad Hatter's Tea Party that seemed so very out of control I feared the creatures may jump out at me. Why put this in a review? To let you know that I've NEVER read, nor seen Alice in Wonderland all the way through in any form. So I have no basis for comparison. This particular version does not frighten me so I've finished it! I loved it. My attention, which tends to wander easily--kind of like Alice--was attracted through every pane. Kind of a "couldn't put it down" sort of thing. Dialog fits the characters and doesn't wander the way it easily can in a graphic novel/manga. [Since I did not read the original, I can't say if dialog followed the first version.] My main problem with a lot of manga or comics is what I call pages that are too "busy." There are so many different things going on at once, it is impossible for me to focus; it is a distraction from the story. This GN is not like that. The story and the characters, rather than the action, are the focus. I like that. Cons might be that people who want and enjoy a lot of action may be bored by Vol. 1. Also, if you're sick of Disney's perpetual self-promotion, as I am, believe me you will not be able to escape it here. I wonder how many other publishers promote themselves at the beginning of the book, at the end of the book, and on the first page of EACH and EVERY chapter as well? Yuk, and so Disney. Johnny Depp, next time, just say "no'" okay? It's not you; it's Disney.

I was a huge fan of the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland ( all his movies in general) so this was of course going to be immediately added to my collection. The manga featured all of the main characters and almost all of the original dialogue from the movie. I highly recommend this cute manga version of the story, you won’t regret it. Tokyopop does an amazing job with all of their manga retellings and are definitely worth a read. (I own Alice in Wonderland, Zero’s Journey (Nightmare Before Christmas), and Beauty and the Beast ).

This is a very well done manga version of the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland manga. Most of the characters is drawn quite well and are much like they were in the movie. Alice, though, looks younger then she did in the movie. The manga does an excellent job following the events in the movie. It also includes a Concept Artwork portion.

So I read Alice in Wonderland a while ago and I wasn't huge fan, but I will however forever love the overall story and Tim Burton's adaption. And for that reason, I picked up this from Waterstones and I loved it, the art style was so great, it was everything I loved about the movie and more. And I have to admit it, Stayne was kinda good-looking as was hatter.

Only a month ago I read a complete Wonderland/Looking Glass graphic novel done as faithfully as can possibly be expected. This one didn’t figure to be at all the same, not with Tim Burton’s name on it. If you’ve seen the Burton movie, you know this already, but for others, no matter what the title, this is not the same story; it’s more of a direct sequel than Looking Glass.
I’m reading this in digital form, but there’s a warning right at the beginning that tells the reader you’re doing it wrong. Since it’s manga, it’s done in Japanese writing style; in other words, it starts at what most of us call the end. The funny thing is it jokes not to start here: “You don’t want to spoil the fun and start with the end, do you?” It’s Alice in Wonderland, what spoilers are left?
But I went to the back and found a lot of prologue, with an older teenage Alice being married off to a boring lord. It takes almost 20 pages for the real story to start, which it does with a bang; for once the fall, or rather the landing, hurts. Again, if you’ve seen the movie all this isn’t a surprise, but if you haven’t, it’s a completely new story, which will either fascinate or enrage you.
She’s awfully calm next to the giant cat, but then she keeps telling herself it’s just a dream; good luck with that.
The book ends before the story’s over, but by then I was okay with it. Didn’t really like the story, but that’s the fault of those who wrote the movie. . . not because it’s so different, it’s just not as interesting as the original. The artwork is black and white, sketchlike, and at times difficult to make out; similar with some of the lettering, especially in the Jabberwocky flashback.

I got this from Netgalley for an honest review. Ive never read the book Alice in Wonderland and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to get aquainted with the story. It will be interesting to see how much of the cartoon I remember and how closely this manga follows it. This was my first manga and I know they're read differently so I wasnt surprised that I had to start reading the right corner of the right page first. The confusing part was having to go all the way to the end of the book and start there. So in case your a Manga newbie like me know that you should start on the last page, like 94 and then read page 93, 92 and so on. It took me until page 10 before I figured out I was reading the end of the story. Maybe this was just an e-arc formatting mistake but more likely my newbiness is showing and I should have know to start at the end. Once I read it in the right order it was easy to follow and quick to get through. I also enjoyed the artwork. It was a great mix of creepy and brutal. It seemed to follow the movie well but the artwork had a darker vibe to it which I really enjoyed. I appreciated being able to discover the story without having to read an entire book. Some of the words didnt make sense but that might be part of the original story. I will definitely be reading more manga in the future, just not many more disney stories. Im interested in reading something dark and unique made for older readers. I think I might have outgrown some of the disney stories but overall I would recommend it if your a fan of Alice in Wonderland.

I have not seen the Tim Burton movie because I do not fancy Johnny Depp, but I thought reading a manga interpretation of it would be entertaining. There was good and bad. The good: the art. It is much more traditionally Japanese manga than the Finding Nemo book. Characters have been styled after the movie ones with a definite manga touch while Alice is any typical young girl found in a manga. The bad: the story. I had no idea what this was going to be about but was thinking it would be a retelling of the classic Alice. I was wrong. This takes place after the original and now as a teenage Alice who only remembers her adventures as a dream, but of course she ends up there again. Except its real name in Underland. If you loved the movie then this will probably be for you. If, like me, you haven't seen it, find a manga/graphic novel of the proper Alice in Wonderland.

This is not the original Alice in Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll. Its the graphic story from the Disney movie. The manga is almost exactly the same as the movie except for the opening scene, where we can see small Alice having nightmares and playing with her father. In the movie we are only told about this. The drawings are spectacular. I loved Alice's eyes and I just find the White Rabbit to be absolutely adorable. Alicia and the Red Queen were gorgeously drawn. However the Mad Hatter was not really what I would like of him as he was drawn a bit darker. If you loved the movie, you will love this manga. All the other scenes are exactly the same as they are in the movie.
Its a High Quality work of art.

This is a manga adaptation of Tim Burton's 2010 movie Alice in Wonderland. I'm a big fan of Alice in Wonderland and therefore received this mange as a gift. The manga follows the original story, so if you are looking for something new or a crazy rewrite, this is not the book you should be looking for. The art is simply amazing and was able to express a lot in a little amount of frames. The characters and their expressions have been brought to life in a way. Their faces full of madness and delight and anger. I was a bit skeptical about what this book would add to the evergrowing Alice in Wonderland rewrites and merchandise, but Jun Abe did a wonderful job capturing the subtle details of all characters and putting these on paper.

I receieved a free digital copy of this book from NetGally for an honest review. This manga is a retelling of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, the first half of it. The story is nothing new, and the book really doesn't do anything you haven't seen before. With so much awesome Alice in Wonderland things out there, picking up a drawn version of the movie isn't what I would recommend. The only thing that is really different is the Mad Hatter, whom they have given the super creepy look only manga can do, I'm still not sure if this is good, as he looks more scary than anything else.

If you were expecting the Disney animated version of Alice in Wonderland here, you will be sorely diappointed. This is a retelling of the Tim Burton version with the same scary looking characters and story. The book is in black and white, typical of Tim Burton movies. The illustrations are simple without a lot of background and the dialogue is limited so it is easy to read and quite a quick read. I loved the drawings of the cheshire cat! If you like Magna, you will love this book. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

*I received an ecopy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review * I have yet to read many Mangas in my life but I figured it would be good to read something I already sort of knew and I was very happy with this. I did find myself forgetting to read the right way and I got confused but it's a learning curve and by the end I had it down. I loved the art it is so beautiful and I don't think I have anything to say on the story as it is one that moat of us know well. Overall I'm very happy with my experience ☺
